Prada came out yesterday, and much to my surprise, she revisited her old sketchy plaid patterns, chunky knits (in tops, bottoms and socks) and pointy thin-heeled pumps. In her SS'10 and FW'09 collections, she put the stick-skinny models on the runway with clothes that further enhanced their probable eating disorders, but this time it was a whole different story. Not only did she have some of the industry's 'curvy-er' models from Victoria Secret walk for her show, I read that all the clothes pretty much had conical-shaped built in bras (though I couldn't seem to get a good enough detail shot online to verify this for my self, except the first coat with the major boobie details).
All the clothes this season are definitely very wearable, but figure-flattering is a little questionable. I'm truly disappointed with the shoes this season, but I guess the only direction after the lucite chandelier velcro heels was downhill.
But it was nice that Ms. Prada decided to bring back the hourglass shape... very different from the rest of the Milan (and NY and London might I add) shows, am curious to see what the other designers have in store for us. Prada has always been an industry trend forecaster and leader, so maybe this could be a shift in the industry for good? After all complaints about how thin these 13 y/o Eastern European girls that stomp the runway are? Are we really going back to the 80's? Maybe that's a bit of a stretch to ask...
Some of my favorite sexy librarians rockin' the beehive... yea lady
Karl's debut of the season at Fendi definitely wasn't a disappointment (although the rubber tipped boots are a little bit of a different story). The sheared fur coats and the fluffy fur scarves were definitely a joy to see, but what was still visible throughout the collection was the classic Fendi woman. The balloon shaped sleeves on dresses are reinvented from season to season, the shift dresses with much attention to detail, as well as the flowing top and skirt separates.
Gianfranco Ferre was also another collection that caught my attention. In the recent Spring issued magazines, I've noticed they have model-of-the-moment, Dree Hemingway, splashed out on their campaign, but what I've failed to understand is what's with all the hype about her? Yes, she has the most amazing last name, she's pretty, she has good personal style... but she, Alexa Chung and some other of these girls... I just don't really get it. How have they shot to the top of the charts in the matter of months? What are these distinguishing characteristics that they hone that none of these other girls have?
Anyway, I digress.

The Spring Show:
from beautiful blacks...
to subtle neutrals... ...to a crisp white.
And lastly some gowns,
All in all, a really wearable and varying collection. It seemed to combine a bunch of trends from these seasons, but still showed it through a cohesive collection. Silhouettes were generally similar throughout- tightly fitted tops paired with equally-tightly fitted skirts, all wrapped with a belt at the waist. The color palette was predominantly black, naturals and whites (though there was ONE pair of red shoes that popped). These really amazing details seen in daywear through evening wear- the amazing ribbed sweaters and woven-detailed dresses.
